White Sage smudging is the quickest way to clear out negative energy from objects, surroundings and all of your sacred spaces. It is used to purify one's aura before a ceremony. It is one of the oldest and most well-known herbs for energy cleansing.

How to Smudge

Light the tip over a fireproof dish, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out so it smoulders. Fan the smoke where you want it — into the corners and doorways of a room, over a stone or a piece of jewelry, around yourself from feet to crown — with a feather or your hand. Open a window so what you clear has somewhere to go. When you are done, press the ember out in sand or a shell. Never leave it smouldering unattended, and keep it clear of smoke alarms, curtains, children and pets.

In Tradition

Burning sage to clear a space is old and wide — many peoples have done it with their own sage. White sage in particular grows wild only in Southern California and Baja and is sacred to the Indigenous peoples there, which is why Sacred Crystals sells farm-grown bundles rather than wild-picked ones.
