Obsidian is volcanic glass, and it is the one crystal that really isn't a crystal — it occurs when lava flows and cools fast with little opportunity for crystal growth. This is no ordinary glass though. This is glass fired in the kiln of Pele herself, and She is one POWERFUL Goddess: the Fire Goddess and the creator of the Islands of Hawaii, a powerful protector, and one who is constantly ebbing and flowing to find balance.

Snowflake Obsidian, though, is Obsidian with the crystal Chrysanthemum — the flower stone. The chrysanthemum crystals dot the surface of the obsidian like tiny beacons of light, and it is those beacons that call in the angelic realm. While Obsidian flows with the energy of protection, chrysanthemum centers us in that safe space we have created. It brings balance and harmony. It is a protective stone that purifies all it comes in contact with — a direct line to the angelic realm in all its power — and it reveals patterns that no longer serve, so they can be released with grace.

About the Stone

The white snowflakes are cristobalite — real crystals growing inside non-crystalline glass, which is why the beacons-of-light image is structurally apt. Mostly from the western United States and Mexico.

Care

It is glass and breaks like glass: a chipped edge can be sharp, and it scratches more easily than quartz. Store it apart from harder stones and avoid hot water on a cold stone. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
